So many people (mainly women), are always looking for ways to improve the look and feel of their skin. Although the cosmetic/make up industry is booming, it mainly sells products that cover up skin blemishes and/or skin conditions rather than improving and healing them.
On top of that, a lot of these “high street” cosmetic products are highly toxic which can dry out and ruin your skin even more.
With that said, let’s look at 10 cleaner, less toxic ways to improve the look and feel of your skin:
1- Drink enough water– this helps the body get rid of toxins, keeping the skin soft and supple. It also improves digestion which affects the look of your skin. Most people out there do not drink enough water.
The right amount of water to drink is dependent on your body weight.
To work out the amount of water you need to drink on a daily basis in litres, using your body weight in kilos, use the below equation.
your weight in kg x 0.033 = the number of litres of water you should drink daily
eg. 80kg x 0.033 = 2.64 litres of pure water a day (minimum)
If the day has been hot and you’ve been sweating a lot, have drunk a lot of alcohol the night before, had a stomach bug, or have lost a lot of fluids another way, then you will need more than your minimum amount per day.
2- Eat the cleanest food as much as possible. Eating highly processed foods will make the body more and more toxic. When the body is overly toxic and all the other detoxification systems are already busy, the body will use the skin to remove the toxins from the body, therefore, it can make your skin look bad.
3- Improve your digestion. Having a weak digestive system will have a negative effect on your skin. Having low levels of stomach acid and digestive enzymes will not allow the foods you eat to be broken down fully. This leaves undigested foods in the intestine and makes the body more toxic. I found my skin improved a lot as my digestion improved and strengthened.
4- Try to regularly get eight hours sleep at night. Studies show the more sleep you get, the more attractive you look. Also, it takes eight hours for the body to fully detox, therefore, improving your skin even more.
5- Use coconut oil on your skin. This type of oil is great for healing the skin, keeping it soft, and providing the body with many key nutrients to keep it healthy.
6- Take a bath with Aloe Vera bath salts. Aloe Vera has been used for over 4000 years for its ability to help with drying, flaking, itching and cracking skin. It’s also good for fungal conditions. Alternatively, you could use Aloe Vera gel after the bath.
7-Get a good sweat on with exercise and sex. When the body has to sweat a lot, this really helps to push toxins out of the body. It also helps to pump the lymphatic system, which is also needed to remove toxins from the body. Massage therapy is also great for removing toxins.
8- Make use of the steam room (or have a Hammam). It’s another way to make the body sweat, open up the pores of the skin and help the body to remove toxins.
9- Regularly use organic, natural skin care products, rather than the more toxic alternatives.
10- Only use makeup when you’re going out, rather than wearing it every day. Again, there are less toxic alternatives out there.
